Program Description:
The SACI MFA in studio art is the first USA Master realized entirely in Europe. Based in Florence the two year program develops an intense and first hand immersion in the contemporary art world.

The students will be challenged with diverse activities that will offer them the wide spectrum of the global art scene. Studio courses offer time to develop individual practices and to explore diverse approaches, methods and technologies. Students are encouraged to explore media and have the opportunity to work with instructors from all the areas of SACI. Opportunities are given to develop personal directions and interests with chosen instructors or external experts and professionals, both within the specific studio art discipline and in the broader cultural panorama. Academic classes engage in the most important historical and contemporary critical debates; studio visits with Italian and international artists give the possibility to experience in direct contact the problematics and practices of art; field trips are a fundamental occasion to be inside the exhibition construction in terms of art practice and display solutions. In the field trips (Venice/Rome/Turin/Milan/Naples/ Berlin/London/etc.) all exhibitions are discussed critically and situated in the contemporary debate. Studio visits are part of the field trip activity and give students the occasion of being 'behind the scenes' and the opportunity of being part of a challenging dialogue between different generations of artists form the emerging scene to the established one.

The program offers lectures by art historians, artists, curators, gallerists with the aim of situating the artistic practice at the center of a system which is a complex intertwined continuous dialogue between creative practice.

The two year program is a full immersion experience and builds strong awareness of the personal practice within the contemporary debate. Active participation and critical dialogue is built by the continuous exchange the students have with the professors of the program and the personalized instructors (DIS and Major Professor) who closely follow the specific development of every student.
