Internship Add-On Program

TIG Intern in Melbourne
Are you planning to study abroad, and wishing that your program included an internship? The Intern Group may be able to help you add a local internship to your existing study abroad program.

Choose from one of two program options (Note, eligibility is determined by local visa and internship regulations):

Option 1: In-Person Internship in Your Host Country

Our Global Internship Program has a non-accommodation option that enables you to intern in a local company in your study abroad destination. You can attend your university’s study abroad program, enjoy the academic and cultural immersion experiences included with that program, and add on an in-person internship.

Option 2: Remote Internship
Our Remote Internship Program enables you to intern globally, with a host company that may be located anywhere in the world, while you live like a local in your study abroad destination. Your living situation and your classes are determined by your study abroad program, while The Intern Group organizes a remote internship for you, full-time or part-time.

Both program options have everything you need to boost your career, including:

  • A professional, in-person (Option 1) or virtual/remote (Option 2) internship in your chosen fields
  • A range of professional development resources, such as our Career Advancement Training modules, access to seminars and networking events, and a DISC workplace assessment
  • Visa guidance, if necessary (Option 1)
  • Live personal support throughout the program, including placement counseling, resume and cover letter guidance, on-site local staff, free & confidential access to mental health services provided by licensed professionals, and a session with a professional career coach after your internship is complete

Program Locations

We can organize a remote internship for you regardless of your study abroad destination, anywhere in the world. We can organize the in-person internship add-on in the following countries and cities:

Who Should Apply

PresentationAnyone who wants to advance their academic and career goals, and has already chosen a study abroad program.  An in-person or virtual international internship is great for undergraduate students, graduate students, and international students

Program Dates and Length

You choose when you want to start, the hours you can commit (35 to 40 per week for in-person programs and 10 to 40 hours a week for virtual programs), and the length of your internship (6 to 24 weeks). While you are welcome to apply at any time, for the best experience we recommend starting the process at least 3 months in advance of your desired start date. Please note, in-person program dates and lengths vary by location.

Application and Internship Placement Process

  1. Apply - Fill out our short application form, attach your resume/CV, and schedule an online interview with our Admissions team. Applying is fast and free.

  1. Connect with The Intern Group's Admissions team - Similar to an advising session, we will discuss your internship and career goals, and the program structure that best suits your professional and personal needs. Be prepared to talk about your background and goals. During this process we will review your application and determine your eligibility to participate in the program.

  1. Receive your decision - Within 1-3 days, we will send you our admissions decision. If you are accepted into the program, you can confirm your enrollment by submitting a deposit toward the program fee.

  1. Begin the Placement Process - Once you are enrolled in the program, our placement team will create a professional profile for you and share it among our network of host organizations to find an internship opportunity that matches your goals. You will then have an interview with the host organization to ensure that it is a good match, and we also will advise you regarding your visa if necessary.

Academic Credit

Male with laptop

Our School of Record, Florida A&M University, can issue a transcript for participation in The Intern Group’s internship programs. Each 40 hours of your internship program equates to 1 credit, subject to a minimum of 3 credits and a maximum of 9.

Whether you can receive academic credit for an internship depends on your university’s policies and your individual academic situation. Please carefully read our page on academic credit
 here.

Program Cost

Our programs have a fee, which covers all of the services described above. The fee amount depends on various factors such as the location and dates/length of your internship. You can find the exact date options and fee amounts for each destination on our website here. Also note that the internships typically are unpaid, subject to the policies of the host company and the rules of your visa.
