IFSA - UNIVERSITY OF SUSSEX: PHYSICS SUMMER PROGRAM

WHY STUDY IN BRIGHTON?
A graceful, cosmopolitan seaside resort with a liberal attitude, Brighton is one of the U.K.’s top vacation destinations. This vibrant city is full of entertainment attractions and is popular with arts lovers thanks to its annual arts festival. Brighton has also become famous for its plethora of quaint shops and eclectic stores.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Nestled near the seaside town of Brighton, University of Sussex has an international reputation for top-quality research and innovative styles of teaching. With this special summer offering, you can focus exclusively on Introductory Physics for four or eight weeks—and make key progress toward your science degree.
Included in this programs is a weekend excursion to London, organized by the University of Sussex.

The University of Sussex offers one, four-week physics class per session:

Session 1: Introductory Physics 1
Session 2: Introductory Physics 2

Introductory Physics classes are calculus-based and provide a firm foundation in physical concepts and principles, covering kinematics and dynamics, fluids, elasticity, wave motion, sound, ideal gases, heat and thermodynamics. Applications of physics will be stressed, particularly those related to biological and medical phenomena, as well as those forming the basis of much of modern technology. Gain further insight by carrying out laboratory experiments and learning to analyze and interpret the data. A strong mathematics background is required.

Students who enroll in Session 1 only will earn 4 U.S. semester credit hours, or 8 U.S. semester credit hours if enrolled in Sessions 1 & 2 combined. Students may not enroll in Session 2 only.

ACTIVITIES & EXCURSIONS
Program activities and excursions are designed to enhance your intercultural competence by developing your understanding of the local culture and people. While optional, they are included in your total program fee. Activities and excursions vary each term based on availability, but may include:
  • Piers and Queers Brighton Exhibit
  • London’s Southbank Walk and Borough Market
  • Buckingham Palace
  • Independence Day BBQ
