overseas professional & intercultural training (opit) program

The Overseas Professional & Intercultural Training (OPIT) internship program gives students the substantive overseas professional experience and intercultural skills demanded by today's global market. English-language internship placements are available in 19 countries throughout the Balkans, Baltics, Russia, Eastern Europe, and Eurasia.

Program Features

Offered in 19 countries, including: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Poland, Russia, Serbia, Turkey, and Ukraine.

Please note: Programming in Russia and Ukraine is temporarily suspended. 

Available during the Summer term (8 weeks)
 
Full-time, English-language internships in a variety of fields, including business and innovation, democracy building and human rights, ecology and environmental issues, journalism and mass media, marketing and communications, STEM, gender and women's rights, and more

Experiential learning and cross-cultural coursework designed to advance critical thinking and global understanding through reflection and feedback sessions

Participants may opt for up to 10 hours per week of instruction in a local language for an additional fee
 
Participants earn 4-5 U.S. academic credits in intercultural communication through Bryn Mawr College; transcripts also notate the completion of a global internship experience as a non-credit-bearing course
 
Housing with carefully-selected, experienced host families who provide two meals per day
 
Comprehensive health, accident, and evacuation insurance for all participants abroad

Eligibility Requirements

  • No foreign language experience required
  • Minimum 2.7 GPA
  • At least 18 years old by application deadline
