This program is for challenge-seeking students who want to understand Brazil’s many sides. You'll study poverty and inequality, go on a Traveling Seminar to Bahia to see Brazil's African roots, and volunteer in the community. The basic curriculum is a combination of Portuguese language courses and electives taught in English, but if you've studied Portuguese already, you may for full immersion by taking direct enroll courses in Portuguese alongside Brazilian peers. The program is open to students of all Portuguese language levels.

  • Core course in Poverty & Inequality in 21st Century Brazil
  • Portuguese language courses, including Portuguese for Spanish Speakers, cover at least one year of university-level Portuguese language each term
  • Electives in economics, political science, development studies, sociology
  • Meetings with grassroots organizations, representatives of indigenous groups, and NGOs
  • Brazilian roommates
  • No language prerequisite—open to beginner through advanced Portuguese language levels
