About Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile

The Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC) was founded in 1888 and has four campuses in Santiago. The PUC is a comprehensive university with a full range of academic offerings including art, business, chemistry, engineering, geography, physics, political science, and Spanish literature.

The university's academic year begins in March and ends in December. CSU IP students can either follow the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile calendar, studying for the calendar year, or follow the U.S. academic calendar, starting in the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile second semester (beginning in July). Calendar year and academic year programs have different deadlines; see the Deadlines and Requirements tab on the CSU IP Chile program's website for further details.

The program typically begins with an intensive three-week Intensive Language Program (ILP), which involves grammar and conversation coursework designed to improve language skills and prepare students for the academic year. During the first semester, all students will take a Chilean culture course covering Chilean history, literature, politics, and social issues. Students will also take a Spanish language course in addition to courses offered at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile in their major or minor. During the second semester, students will study advanced Spanish language, in addition to their other courses taken at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. All instruction is in Spanish.
