Sponsored by Wayne State University since 1953, JYM is the oldest study abroad program in Germany and enjoys privileged status as an affiliated institute at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU Munich).  

Founded 1472, LMU Munich is one of the oldest universities in Germany and has repeatedly been ranked the #1 research university in Germany. In 2014 LMU Munich became the only German university to be placed among the top 30 universities in the world.

JYM students are enrolled at LMU Munich and have access to the full university curriculum in any major, except law and medicine. You'll take German language courses at JYM and then design your own program of study around JYM area studies electives, university courses, undergraduate research projects and internships. 

All instruction is in German.

Admission Requirements
Two years of college level German or the equivalent; overall GPA of 3.0 and 3.0 in German courses; junior ranking by time of departure. See the our website for complete details.

March 15 for full year and first semester-only options
October 1 for second semester-only option


JYM Program Fee
JYM's program fee includes tuition, housing, German health insurance, and more.

Scholarships
JYM distributes more than $60,000 in program scholarships annually.
