This program appeals to students who are interested in gaining a deeper understanding of Argentinian and Latin American culture and fulfilling liberal education requirements.
- Program type:
Study Abroad in Buenos Aires is a study abroad center program. Instruction is in English or Spanish, depending on course selections.
- Level:
1,000-3,000 level coursework.
- Term:
Fall semester, spring semester, academic year, winter break, and summer session.
- Prerequisites:
2.5 GPA. Freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors.
- Courseload:
2 intensive Spanish courses and 2–3 courses taught in English for a total of 13–18 credits for fall or spring semester; 1 intensive course for 5 credits over winter break; 1 intensive Spanish course for 4–5 credits during each summer session.

About This Program
The elegance of Europe and the spirit of South America live side by side in Buenos Aires. Founded by immigrants along the shores of the Rio de la Plata, Buenos Aires built its identity on Spanish, Italian, and French influences, which appear in the grand boulevards, expansive parks, and magnificent architecture.
While exploring the city's neighborhoods, visit the small colored houses of La Boca and experience the popular tango that lives in San Telmo streets. Nearly 40 percent of the Argentine population lives in the capital, making this "Paris of the Americas" a city of 15 million.
The program is offered jointly by the Fundación Jose Ortega y Gasset and the Learning Abroad Center. Located in the heart of downtown Buenos Aires, the Fundación is located in one of Argentina's most elegant and prestigious buildings. You learn and experience the Spanish language as well as global and cultural issues.
A diverse faculty brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the classroom. Extracurricular activities—sampling food, reading literature, and experiencing music and dance—increase your understanding of Argentine culture.
You can can choose to live in apartments or with an Argentine host family.
- Live with an Argentine family. Enjoy your home-cooked meals in an Argentine homeHost families provide breakfast and dinner daily.
- Live in an apartment (semester only). For an additional fee, share an apartment with other students. Apartments include double rooms, a shared bathroom, a common living area, and a kitchen. Breakfast is provided daily.
Tours and day trips that feature the country's historical and cultural highlights are included in the cost of the program. Destinations include Tigre, San Antonio de Areco, Luján, and Colonia, Uruguay.

The Learning Abroad Center in the Global Programs and Strategy Alliance is the University of Minnesota's comprehensive resource for study, intern, community engagement, research, and volunteer experiences worldwide.

A variety of program options—more than 180 programs in 50 countries—have been developed to address the diverse needs of students. Programs vary in length, level, academic focus, teaching format, language requirements, cost, and degree of independence demanded of the participant.
